TORRENT
an interactive installation w. dancers
– created for Rome Art Festival
You enter the hall, glimpsing the outlines of the figures on the ground, connected in a mechanical grid. The ‘machine’ slowly pulls figure across the room.
A large luminous green button attracts your attention more green buttons light up in the background in a vibrant light of blurred images and passing 16 mm film float in the room. The interactive installation TORRENT invites the audience to control the bodies being dragged across the floor and lifted into the air. TORRENT is a game in which the audience’s willingness to push the dancers physical limits, is put to the test.
Technically TORRENT consists of electric winches with steel cables meters creating long ‘loops’ and large circular movements in space, in combination with lights and old 16mm film projectors. The dancers are trained aerial dancers working with harnesses and other relevant safety equipment. The’Machine’ drags the dancers along the ground, lift them up into the air, and bring them back down.

TORRENT – interaktiv dans- og rum installation
Du træder ind i salen, skimter omridset af skikkelser på jorden, forbundet i mekaniske snoretræk. ’Maskinen’ trækker langsomt skikkelsen henover gulvet. En stor lysende grøn knap tiltrækker din opmærksomhed, flere grønne knapper lyser op i baggrunden, i et pulserende lys af slørede billeder og forbipasserende 16 mm film frit svævende i rummet.
Det interaktive værk TORRENT inviterer publikum til at styrer værket.
TORRENT er et spil, hvor tilskuernes vilje til at udforske konstruktionen og teste dansernes fysiske grænser sættes på en prøve. Installationen bevæger sig i hele rummet omkring tilskuerne.
Teknisk består installationen TORRENT af elektriske spil der med stålkabler skaber meterlange ’loops’, store cirkulære og modsatrettede bevægelser i rummet, herudover lysinstallationer og gamle 16mm projektorer.
Danserne er trænede ’aerial dancers’, der med bæreseler og solide kostumer er helt i maskinernes (og publikums) vold. ‘Maskinerne’ trækker dansere hen ad jorden, løfter dem op i luften, sætter dem ned igen.
