Inner Rockstar

  • by

“do you have conscious or perhaps unconscious fantasies of playing mad electric guitar and screaming “f..k” into a microphone?”
-an intensive workshop, laboratory and performance experiment guided by Pipaluk Supernova.

WORKSHOP
Pipaluk is teaching improvisation tools including creative voice, hands on electric instruments and microphones, instant composition and writing.
Movement- and dance improvisation is equally integrated, serving as a more complete approach to open up for creative sources, and new experiences, finding courage and connection.

This work is available for everyone ready for a both entertaining and challenging journey, incl professional performers, artists and musicians.

We are exploring an open, yet highly intense framework, exploring our hidden alternate realities and personas. Participants are invited to move into unknown territory, physical role play, unbelievable musical constellations, to break all the rules, or impersonate your favourite cliché.

You are not expected to be able to sing or play an instrument, we adore the expressiveness and creative experience of ‘not knowing’.

PERFORMANCE EXPERIMENT
Based on our findings in the ”Inner Rockstar” workshop, we co-create an evolving performance installation where multiple scenarios and set-ups involves both participants and visitors in a most surprising and entertaining way.

PRACTICAL, we need :
– spacious dance-floor, large space, or multiple spaces, where we can move and make NOISE
– space(s) must preferably be available throughout the workshop- and performance days, as installations build by participants will progress
– a collection of not-precious used microphones, instruments, moveable amplifiers etc, partly provided by participants
– used costumes, wigs etc, partly provided by participants
– duration of experience, estimate workshop 4-5 days, open performance 2 days

THE LABORATORY
This highly unusual laboratory and performance concept, invites everyone to live out their secret, or less secret, fantasies of becoming a wild one, a star, a queen, a mad guitarist, a punk singer, a boy band hero, or anything else you can dream up. It only takes a few minutes to become an acclaimed rockstar in our world.

Our project is a ongoing research, diving into the iconology of “stardom”, archetypical images of creatures engulfed in glory, the heros and heroins, inspiration for shifting identities and daydreams.
Inner Rockstar invites us to unleash the beast within, to play mad electric guitar and scream your heart out.

As part of the laboratory, we integrate a variety of improvisation techniques, theater improvisation, song writing, vocal tools, authentic movement, contact improvisation, release technique, creating a coherent undercurrent for this collective experiment.

THE PERFORMANCE
Playing with the elements of surprise and challenge, the INNER ROCKSTAR provokes soul searching moments when astonished audience members get to direct an entire set of show dancers, or to be the lead singer!
It doesn’t take long before it’s hard to tell who are the performers, the spectators, the musicians and the fans, as the different roles keeps transforming and interacting.

The game of INNER ROCKSTAR is incredibly entertaining, an open space inhabited by strung out characters attempting to live out every possible cliché in rock’n roll history.
The spaces are (possibly) equipped with various instruments and “stages”, a costume department, a bar and “hotel rooms”..
Hidden scores make the improvised performance expand into a playful open space interaction, where visitors may interact as they please.
We laugh a lot, and take on the most impossible challenge with hardly no preparation at all, an uplifting experience that will forever change our ideas of what we can, and can-not, do.

Earlier laboratories and performance installations took place in Schwelle 7 (Berlin), Ponderosa Tanzland (Berlin area), including “Inner Rockstar 100.998 seconds” that invited the audience to join a 28 hour long experiment, “Bedroom Rockstar”, a 12 hour long experiment and “Temple Rockstar”, an 8 hour experiment.
All events have been the product of what was created by the participants
